Wood narrowly failed to extend our season beyond last weekend and as such failed to achieve a dream trip back up Wembley Way, after a heartbreaking and cruel defeat to promotion favourites Notts County.
As such our club’s focus must now turn to next season and in building a squad to once again challenge for a top half finish. With our season tickets prices amongst the very lowest in the division, we are hoping that our growing Wood Army following, can once again come out in force and break our season ticket sales record for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
To further incentivise the Wood Army, the town and our wider community, the Chairman has stated that on top of the heavily discounted season ticket prices, the offer will also give everyone who buys their season tickets in full by Sunday 4th June, our new 2023-24 replica shirt, plus any three of our five home pre-season games of your choice in July completely FREE.
Wood Chairman Danny Hunter said, “I hope this offer is well received, as our pre-season programme is already incredible and we can officially announce that a full Brentford first team squad, a Chelsea XI and of course the visit from our good friends Arsenal, who are all once again coming to Meadow Park this pre-season and those dates are now confirmed.
“The other two home pre-season games cannot officially be announced at present – but I know you’re going to be very happy with the opposition as they include another top Premier League London club and a top local Championship club.”
Touching on Sunday’s loss, the Wood Chairman continued, “All I can do is tell you just how devastated we all are after such a cruel defeat at Notts County, but it’s now my job as the Chairman of this club to accept defeat with good grace and we wish Notts County the best of luck in Saturday’s play-off final. It’s also my job to ensure myself, Luke and my staff use the hurt to further our ambitions and accept our medicine as we look to go again. I do think though that in the circumstances we can allow ourselves a day or two to let the hurt subside and to collect our thoughts.
“If we are to go again, then I will need the Wood Army, the town, our wider community and our very loyal sponsors to stick with me, as Sunday for so many of us will take some getting over… Our season ticket target as a barometer is very simple, we are hoping to sell 850 season tickets by the time pre-season begins in early July.
“I’m hoping, maybe mistakenly, that anyone local who might be unsure whether to go and watch the much bigger local pro clubs, due to price or the fact they’ve enjoyed their trips to Meadow Park this season, might decide that we need their hard-earned cash far more than the elite clubs, and decide to make Meadow Park their footballing home for next season. Trust me, both Luke and myself would love to see them all, as they would hopefully help us take our small community club back into the play-offs and give us another shot at the EFL.”
Hunter concluded, “I’m so sorry we are not taking our supporters, our club, our town and our wider community to Wembley once again. That said, I hope you appreciate that the club, Luke Garrard and the dressing room gave it their very best shot over the season and two very exciting play-off games, and in truth we came up short by just one minute.
“So, let me finish by saying that I’m hoping you’ll buy your season tickets in your numbers, and can I thank you all for your unwavering support of the club this season. Trust me your extra support in the play-offs was firstly amazing at Barnet and just off the scale at Notts County. I know you shared my hurt last weekend and that hurt brought me to tears, but you have made me so proud once again to be your Chairman. Up the Wood, god bless you Wood Army and here’s to next season.”
