Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s men travel to Kent to face Tonbridge Angels in the Vanarama National League South, kicking off at 15:00.
Last Season for the Angels
The Angels enjoyed a relatively comfortable Vanarama National League South campaign last term, finishing 14th with a record of 15 wins, 13 draws and 18 defeats. After another season safely steering clear of the relegation zone, they achieved their goal of establishing themselves in the sixth tier following promotion in 2019.
Form Guide
The Angels currently find themselves in extremely poor form heading into the final stage of the season, sitting 22nd in the Vanarama National League South form table with a record of one win, one draw and four defeats. Their only victory came against Chesham United in March and to compound matters, Tonbridge have conceded a worrying 12 goals in their last six matches, which the Wood will be hoping to capitalise on tomorrow afternoon.
In their previous outing, the Angels earned an impressive draw away at local rivals and promotion hopefuls Maidstone United. After going behind before half-time to Aaron Blair’s 20th goal of the season, Tonbridge responded well in the second half, with Ethan Sutcliffe netting a 65th-minute equaliser. Although Maidstone pressed for a winner late on, Scott Wagstaff’s side held firm to secure a point.
Last Time We Met
The Wood and the Angels played out a 1-1 draw, with both goals arriving in a much-improved second half. Wood dominated early on, creating chances through Benton and Appiah, but were unable to break the deadlock, with heavy rain also disrupting the rhythm of the game.
After the interval, Tonbridge showed more attacking intent and took the lead in the 71st minute when Ryan Hanson capitalised on a fumble by Ashmore. However, Wood hit back just five minutes later, as Lee Ndlovu produced a superb left-footed finish to equalise. Despite sustained late pressure, including two efforts from Whelan, Wood were unable to find a winner.
One to Watch
Ex-EFL winger and Boreham Wood loanee Sean Shields will be one to watch tomorrow afternoon. The 33-year-old has impressed Angels fans this season, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in the National League South, and will be looking to add to that tally one last time this campaign.
The Wood
Luke Garrard’s men will be looking to finish the regular season strongly as we push for a top-three finish and an outside chance of a title win. Currently sitting fourth in the form table, Wood have secured four wins from the last six matches and are on a run of four consecutive victories which is an impressive turnaround after a difficult March, leaving us in good stead heading into the play-offs.
In our most recent match, Wood claimed an emphatic 4-1 win over relegation-threatened Enfield at the Mangata Pay UK Stadium Meadow Park. After a dominant but goalless first half, Wood came alive in the second period, scoring four times. Although Enfield briefly reduced the deficit with a penalty to make it 2-1, Wood responded immediately with two more goals to put the result beyond doubt and secure another vital three points.
