Tonight, Luke Garrard’s side will be aiming to make it seven wins on the bounce in the Enterprise National League with the visit of fellow promotion hopefuls Scunthorpe United, kicking-off at 19:45.
After back-to-back relegations which saw them go from Sky Bet League Two to the Enterprise National League North, Andy Butler halted the slide and secured promotion back to the fifth tier at the first time of asking.
Having been in contention to win the title for the whole campaign, the Iron went up via the play-offs after being two points behind champions Brackley Town – getting past Chester in a 2-1 win in the Promotion Final.
Playing an integral role in their promotion to the National League, lethal striker Callum Roberts netted 20 league goals last term and already has nine goals and five assists to his name. The former Notts County man joined the Iron from Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen last summer and has one goal and four assists to his name so far this campaign.
Our fine form in the league continued last time out as we made the trip to Essex to lock horns with Braintree Town. The Wood were dominant from the first whistle and Zak Brunt made the dominance pay on 20 minutes with his driven strike from the edge of the box.
Matt Rush netted his 15th goal of the campaign in the league 11 minutes later with a composed finish before Charles Clayden’s header made sure of the points four minutes into the second-half.
Our last clash with the Iron came when we made the trip up to the Attis Arena back in September. Matt Rush broke the deadlock within the first minute after his strike from point-blank range before Callum Roberts equalised from the spot 16 minutes from time to ensure the spoils were shared in a 1-1 draw.
