Match preview: Rochdale (A)

3 February 2026

Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s side head up to Greater Manchester to face a fellow promotion hopeful in Rochdale, kicking-off at 19:45.

Last season for the Dale

Jimmy McNulty’s side nearly had a season to remember last term as they finished in fourth place. They fell short though in the play-offs in a thrilling 4-3 defeat to Southend United in the play-off eliminantor, with the Shrimpers going on to reach the final.

One to watch

Looking to fire Rochdale into the Football League for the first time since 2023, Emmanuel Dieseruvwe’s lethal striker instincts could play a pivotal role in achieving that aim. The 30-year-old has plied his trade for a plethora of clubs in the Football League including Chesterfield, Salford City and Tranmere Rovers and is an established goal-scorer at this level having thrived for FC Halifax Town and Hartlepool United in recent seasons.

The Wood

We fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat to Boston United last time out but the afternoon began on a high when Abdul Abdulmalik opened the scoring from the edge of the box in the first minute of additional time. However, Femi Ilesanmi gave away a penalty seven minutes into the second-half and was dismissed with Lenell John-Lewis calmly slotting into the corner.

Regan Booty was then sent off on 79 minutes and this helped the Pilgrims get over the line as Jordy Hiwula netted the winner two minutes later.

Previous meetings

Our first Enterprise National League clash of the season came against the Dale as they prevailed with a 2-0 victory. Dieseruvwe broke the deadlock for the visitors on 49 minutes before he doubled their advantage three minutes later.
