Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s side return to Enterprise National League action with a trip to lock horns with Braintree Town, kicking-off at 15:00.
After securing promotion via the Vanarama National League South play-offs during the 2023/24 season, Braintree’s main objective was to retain their fifth tier status. Although they struggled at the start of the campaign, Steve Pitt’s arrival proved to be a turning point as they survived by four points to defy the odds.
A young ‘keeper who has come through the ranks at West Ham United, Mason Terry has impressed in his time at the Rare Breed Meat Co. Stadium since joining the Iron on loan in August. The 21-year-old has been gaining first-team experience in Essex’s non-league scene having plied his trade for Hornchurch last season and has made 20 National League appearances so far this term.
We were unable to write another memorable chapter in our Emirates FA Cup journey last time out in the the third round as we fell to a 5-0 defeat to Sky Bet League One side Burton Albion. Goals from Kryan Lofthouse, Fabio Tavares, Dylan Williams, JJ McKiernan as well as a Charlie O’Connell own goal did the damage as the third tier side displayed their clinicality in front of goal to progress to the next round.
Our last clash with the Iron came at the start of the season when we prevailed with a narrow 2-1 victory at the Mangata Developments Stadium Meadow Park. Luke Norris broke the deadlock on 31 minutes from the spot before Marley Marshall-Miranda, who is now in WD6, drew level in additional time.
However, Norris proved to be the difference with his towering header from Erico Sousa’s cross to give the Wood our first National League win of the campaign.
