Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s side will be looking to bounce back from consecutive league defeats with the visit of Brackley Town in the quarter-finals of the National League Cup, kicking-off at 19:00.
It was a historic campaign for the Northamptonshire-based outfit as they secured promotion to the Enterprise National League for the first time in their history as champions. After losing out in the play-offs in three of the past five seasons, Brackley finished top of the table with 92 points on the board to secure a long-awaited promotion to non-league’s top tier.
An attacking midfielder who has risen up the non-league ranks, Scott Pollock is a pivotal part of Brackley’s creative presence. After spells with Hashtag United and then Northampton Town, the 24-year-old spent time in the National League with Boston United and Yeovil Town before making the switch to the Saints in the summer, making 23 league appearances thus far.
It was an afternoon to forget as we made the trip to Greater Manchester on Saturday to lock horns with Altrincham. Ollie Crankshaw opened the scoring on 13 minutes before goals from Otis Khan and Jake Cooper gave the hosts a three-goal cushion. Regan Booty netted a stunning free-kick that was deserving to win any game of football but his strike nine minutes from time couldn’t spark a late comeback.
We have already clashed with the Saints on two occasions so far this term, once in the Enterprise National League and again in the Isuzu FA Trophy. Our trip to St James Park saw the Wood secure a 3-1 win in November as Matt Rush opened the scoring just before the break before further strikes from Abdul Abdulmalik and Erico Sousa sealed the points with Matt Lowe’s consolation counting for nothing.
The Saints visited Hertfordshire in the third round of the FA Trophy and following an entertaining 3-3 draw where Sousa netted a last-gasp equaliser, the visitors prevailed on penalties thanks to a 3-1 victory.
