Team News
Luke Garrard has no fresh injuries to contend with, having seen his side come away unscathed from the game against Maidstone United.
Form Guide
The Wood lost 1-0 last time out, in a frustrating game against Maidstone United, where they controlled large parts, but couldn’t find the back of the net.
That game followed an emphatic victory over Tuesday’s opponents Barnet, where the Wood defeated their local rivals 1-0 at Meadow Park.
The game had been heading for a goalless draw, but substitute Bradley Ash netted an 88th minute winner, to seal a historic derby day victory.
The Wood will be keen to react with another solid performance against Barnet, after their final match of 2018.
Garrard’s side had previously been unbeaten in December, with four wins and two draws in all competitions.
The result leaves the Wood in 12th place in the National League on 36-points, going into the New Year.
Having seen the experienced John Still retire as a manager this week, 44-year-old Darren Currie has been placed in charge at Barnet.
A former coach and player at Boreham Wood, Currie tasted victory in his first match as manager of Barnet.
Shaquille Coulthirst’s 34th minute goal was enough to seal an impressive away victory over Dagenham & Redbridge.
One to Watch – Wesley Fonguck
Wesley Fonguck remains the one to watch for Barnet. Fonguck is a goal-scoring midfielder, who already has six goals to his name this season, having played a key role for the Bees this season.
The youngster graduated through the Barnet academy, having been signed from local side Croydon.
The 21-year-old made his first team debut as a substitute against Crawley Town back in 2016, before making his first start in 2017, against Grimsby Town.
An England C international, Fonguck will be vital for Barnet on Boxing Day.
From the Dugout – Luke Garrard
“Darren Currie has gone in there and he wants the job, let’s not kid anyone. He has gone and picked up an unbelievable result on the road against Dagenham, and there is a new lease of life in that dressing room.
“Add that to the fact, that the first time these two clubs met in a competitive league fixture, we have taken the bragging rights.
“So, I am under no illusions and I know full well, that they will be totally up for the game on New Year’s Day.
“I hope we are too, and I will be preparing to go there and win a game of football. Why? Because we have not picked up maximum points against Maidstone.
“I want to go there and win a game of football and I can imagine that it is going to be a tense affair.
“We beat them here and the stats say that you don’t go and get double wins over your rivals.
“I think that it is tough to go and get six points against any side at this level, so we know the job in hand.
“We are 12th in the National League and we have a group of players, who are giving this football club everything.”
