Tonight, Luke Garrard’s side head to Aldershot Town as we look to make it back-to-wins following a dominant showing against Gateshead on Saturday, with kick-off at 19:45.
After finishing two points outside the play-off places in the 2023/24 season, the Shots failed to replicate that success last term with a 16th-place finish. They currently occupy 20th place and are only sitting outside the relegation zone on goal difference.
A key figure in Aldershot’s historic Isuzu FA Trophy truimph last term, midfielder Josh Barrett netted the third goal in a 3-0 Wembley win over Spennymoor Town and has continued to be a key member of their squad this season. He was also named as the club’s player of the season and put pen to paper on a new two-year contract in the summer.
After an unforgettable evening in WD6 with our National League Cup truimph over West Ham United U21’s, we were back at home on Saturday as we hosted Gateshead. A convincing win followed as Leon Ayinde broke the deadlock to net his first goal for the club before Zak Brunt doubled the advantage from a tight angle on 38 minutes. The attacking midfielder made sure of the points as he extended the lead to two with a composed strike one minute into the second period.
A stunning Abdul Abdulmalik strike proved to be enough in the reverse fixture as the Wood secured three points thanks to a narrow 1-0 win. The 22-year-old picked up the ball in his own half before navigating past several Shots players, applying the finishing touch from just inside the box with 16 minutes on the clock.
