IN FOCUS: POTTERS BAR TOWN
Potters Bar Town was founded in 1960 and originally known as the Mount Grace Old Scholars. The school’s first team were having a good season, but many of the boys were due to leave at Easter. It was then that Ken Barrett; the P.E. Master of Mount Grace School asked them and old ‘Scholars’ to support him in raising a team. They were accepted into the Barnet & District League in 1960. In 1965, the Barnet & District and Finchley & District Leagues merged to form the North London Combination. By 1967/68 Potters Bar Town had won the Premier Division and the Reserves the Division 1 title and were admitted to Division 2 of the Herts County League.
In more recent history Potters Bar got promoted from the Bostik League Division One North to the Bostik Premier League in the 2017–18 season by finishing second. They secured promotion with a 3–0 win against Barking. During the 2019–20 season Potters Bar Town were drawn against our local rivals Barnet in the FA Cup qualifying fourth round. Tuesday 26 July 2022
The Lantern Stadium, Pre-Season Friendly
We traveled to the Lantern Stadium last year for our penultimate game of pre-season. The Scholars opened the scoring inside ten minutes after a glancing header from Kaiser took a deflection that took it beyond Nathan Ashmore. The Wood went into the break trailing; however, we got off to a brilliant start when a ball was delivered from the left-hand side and Kpohomoh headed the ball into his own net bringing the scores level. The Wood were unable to find a winner and the game finished all square
