Boreham Wood came from a goal down to beat Tottenham Hotspur XI 2-1 in an entertaining game at Meadow Park. Mason Melia gave the Lilywhites the lead on 33 minutes before second-half goals from Lewis Richardson and Luke Norris secured the win for Wood. It was another impressive performance from Luke Garrard’s men.

Wood had the better of the opening period and created the game’s first chance on four minutes when Lewis Richardson found Zak Brunt, whose shot was just off target. Two minutes later, Richardson cut inside onto his left foot before firing wide. Regan Booty was also off target on seven minutes. Five minutes later, Abdul Abdulmalik, who was causing the Spurs defence all sorts of problems down the left, went on an incredible run before trying his luck at Tottenham keeper Carey Bloedorn’s near post, but the keeper was equal to it.

On 17 minutes, Abdulmalik again forced Bloedorn into a good save after another great run. Three minutes later, Spurs had their first chance of the game, but Luca Gunter did well to save Mason Melia’s effort. The visitors took the lead on 33 minutes when Melia fired home from close range. Just before the interval, an excellent shot from Richardson was met by an outstanding save from Bloedorn.

It took Boreham Wood all of 15 seconds to equalise at the start of the second half. Lewis Richardson got the goal his performance deserved with an excellent run and a deflected shot that found its way into the Spurs net. Richardson nearly scored again a minute later, but Bloedorn managed to deny him. On 50 minutes, Reiss Russell-Denny had a rare effort on goal for Spurs, but his shot went high and wide. Five minutes later, a Matt Rush cross found Brunt, whose effort was off target. Soon afterwards, Richardson had his third good chance of the half, but his well-struck effort went just wide on 57 minutes.

Soon afterwards, Luke Garrard rang the changes, making six substitutions, and Wood’s dominance continued. On 69 minutes, Marley Marshall-Miranda fed Luke Norris, who struck an excellent first-time shot that was somehow saved by Spurs substitute goalkeeper Sam Archer. From the resulting corner, Norris was not to be denied as he finished well to give Wood the lead. Three minutes later, it was Norris’s turn to feed Marshall-Miranda, who ran through on goal only to be denied by Archer with a good save. Soon afterwards, an excellent pass from Tarryn Allarakhia found Norris, but with plenty of time, he elected to shoot first time and Archer gathered comfortably. On 80 minutes, Allarakhia was played through, only to be denied by the outside of the post.

With less than three weeks until the big kick-off against Tamworth, Boreham Wood are looking good. With every match they are getting sharper and stronger, with the substitutes performing just as well as those who start.
