It was seasonal cheer for Boreham Wood as a first-half brace from Wood top scorer Kwesi Appiah was enough for Boreham Wood to record a convincing 2-0 win at Enfield Town.

Luke Garrard made one change to the starting line-up from last Saturday’s draw against Tonbridge Angels, with Charlie O’Connell returning to the side and Charles Clayden dropping to the bench.

Boreham Wood controlled a lot of early possession but were unable to truly threaten the Town goal. The hosts had the game’s first chance on 14 minutes when a nice turn and shot from Lennon Peake forced Nathan Ashmore into a save. Almost immediately, Kwesi Appiah had a shot blocked by Xavier Benjamin. Wood took the lead on 24 minutes when an outstanding pass from Femi Ilesanmi picked out Appiah, who fired home from close range.

Wood could have doubled the lead five minutes later when some excellent play involving Chris Bush and Lee Ndlovu created a chance for Tom Whelan, who forced a good save from Rhys Forster in the Town goal. On 40 minutes, Town skipper Mickey Parcell fired over from distance. Three minutes later, a Jon Benton cross was headed in by Kwesi Appiah for his and Boreham Wood’s second goal, sending Wood into the break with a comfortable lead.

HT: Enfield Town 0-2 Boreham Wood

The Wood were unable to add to their lead in the second period as the hosts showed a lot of fighting spirit in their attempt to get back into the game. Seven minutes after the restart, Billy Leonard fired just wide for the hosts. On 58 minutes, a Whelan pass found Appiah, who looked like he was about to complete his hat-trick, but his effort was cleared off the line.

Seven minutes later, Harry Hawkins had a good chance for the hosts, but he could only direct his header into the arms of Ashmore. On 76 minutes, a fantastic Ilesanmi cross was just out of Appiah’s reach as he looked to direct it into the goal. The hosts piled the pressure on for the last period of the match, but a resolute Wood defence kept them out.

FT: Enfield Town 0-2 Boreham Wood

Boreham Wood weren’t at their best, but a clinical Kwesi Appiah was the difference between the two sides. Wood’s top scorer took both his goals very well and propelled Wood back up to second in the Vanarama National League South table, now only a point behind leaders Torquay United.
