Kyran Lofthouse (35), Charlie O'Connell (41) (OG), Fabio Tavares (67), Dylan Williams (87), JJ McKiernan (90'+2)
A strong showing from League One side Burton Albion helped them strike five at Meadow Park to end another fantastic FA Cup run from The Wood.
Early stages of the contest saw The Wood firmly on the front foot. Zak Brunt helped to produce one of the first major chances inside the first few minutes, dispossessing Kyran Lofthouse and nearly finding one of Joe Newton & Matt Rush queuing up inside the Burton Albion penalty area.
Several corners in quick succession were causing massive problems for the Brewers’ defence on the ten minute mark. Routines which looked like they were plucked straight from the training ground allowed Charlie O’Connell and Cameron Coxe to have their efforts blocked by a retreating visiting defence.
But the Staffordshire based side replied with the biggest chance of the half so far. New man Kain Adom beat Coxe down the left and cut the ball back across for Kgaogelo Chakue, who if it wasn’t for the heroics of an outstretched Ted Curd could’ve put his side ahead from point blank range.
Lewis Richardson was next to come close for the whites as Abdul Abdulmalik drove at Toby Sibbick, before threading a neat pass for Richardson to have his half volley blocked by the several defenders surrounding him.
With Wood firmly in the driving seat, they kept causing the visitors problems inside the opening half an hour. Regan Booty was instrumental in driving his side forward, as he forced Dudek into a catch off his curling effort from the edge of the area. He had a second chance minutes later from a free-kick after Chauke denied Brunt capitalising on a loose pass, but his strike from distance was parried comfortably down by Dudek.
However against the run of play it was Burton who got their noses in front. A well worked move from the back saw the ball worked outside to Adom, who delivered a fantastic ball into Lofthouse who got ahead of Cox and slammed a strike beyond Curd and into the far corner.
The League One outfit however doubled their lead late on in the second half thanks to debutant Adom. He marked his arrival from Gateshead with a header into the bottom corner from Jack Armer’s cross, which came off both Chris Bush & O’Connell on the way in.
Despite a late surge, including a Booty cross from deep which Dudek comfortably punched to safety meant Wood went into the break with an almighty mountain to climb against a side two leagues above them in the football pyramid.
A solid start from the Wood started proceedings leading on from the break similar to the first period. A ball cross field from Brunt allowed Coxe to take a great touch away from his man, before curling an effort from distance well over the bar, before Abdulmalik did well to play the ball into Richardson, whose half volley also found its way into the North Bank. The winger did have a shot of his own, forcing the first save of the half from Dudek after he cut in and drilled a low effort into his hands.
The biggest chance of the lot however came when a corner routine was worked between Abdulmalik & Newton to find Booty, who delivered to the back post for an onrushing Chris Bush who headed just over from a handful of yards out.
After the Wood surge died down, debuts for Ollie Kensdale & Junior Robinson who arrived on Friday arrived on the hour mark, to hopefully give Luke Garrard’s men an extra push going into the final half an hour.
But despite the hosts being the better of the two sides, they found themselves three down in a goal which pretty much summed up the afternoon. A set-piece from the right was curled in from Dylan Williams, which Ted Curd came to meet and dropped it right to the feet of Fabio Tavares who tucked home to essentially seal the deal for the black & amber side.
They could have had four through Julian Larsson, who curled a free-kick from the left just past the post of the far corner, with Ted Curd in the Boreham Wood net flat footed and completely beaten.
That fourth goal did arrive inside the final ten minutes, as Dylan Williams rushed away from the last man of the defence and met a ball over the top to find the bottom left corner with a superbly controlled half volley.
Substitute JJ McKiernan piled on the salt in the womb as he made it five after he met a cut back from the right and his side footed effort looped over Curd with a deflection on the way in.
With a five goal advantage, and not much threat from the Wood going forward, another strong FA Cup run comes to an end.
