ANNUAL YOUTH TOURNAMENT SUCCESS

22 July 2018

The first day of Boreham Wood’s Annual Youth Tournament was a roaring success, with some incredibly gifted teams and players taking part throughout.

We hope that everyone had an amazing time; there was some excellent football played and always in the right spirit.

We’ve compiled an easy to follow summary, covering all of the action from the day.

Under 8s

The Under 8s displayed some superb football throughout the tournament, and it proved incredibly tight in the group stages. Pro Formance A and B ruled their groups, as they have in previous years, with some exciting young talent. Enfield Town and London Colney Colts topped their respective groups as well, setting up for a thrilling batch of quarter finals.

Both Pro Formance sides stormed to the semi-finals with dominant victories, and they were joined by fellow group toppers London Colney Colts and second placed Pro Sports Academy.

An all Pro Formance Semi-final tie saw a grudge match between the two sides, with Pro Formance B narrowly coming out on top, to seal their place in the final.

Joining them were the ever-improving London Colney Colts, who fought their way past Pro Sports Academy, with some stunning goals.

Pro Formance may have been making headlines with their continually excellent performances – led by two exciting twin brothers – but it was London Colney Colts who came out on top in the final, to seal the first trophy of the day.

Under 9s

The Under 9s played their tournament during the afternoon heat, but were seemingly unaffected by the warm weather, as they displayed some quality football.

Panthera would set the tone of the tournament, topping their group early on, and were unsurprisingly joined by another Pro Formance side.

London Lions Whites ensured that Pro Formance A were the only one of the sides in the knockout stages though, by winning their group and leaving Pro Formance B in third place. Whetstone Wanderers Panthers were the final group toppers for the Under 9s, edging out Pro Sports Academy on goal difference.

Panthera would require a penalty shootout to get past their quarter final opponents Pro Sports Academy. Joining them in the semi-finals were Pymmes SFA Santos, Bows Soccer Academy and London Lions Whites.

London Lions Whites dominated their semi-final with a quickfire double over Bows Soccer Academy, while Panthera would need no penalty shootout this time around, as they dispatched with Pymmes SFA Santos 1-0, following a solid defensive performance.

Panthera followed this up with another solid performance in the final. London Lions Whites were unable to beat their stubborn defence, which ensured that Panthera claimed the trophy.

Under 11s

King George Vipers stormed their group with an impressive 10-points, leaving second placed TFA United Leopards on four less. Not to be outdone, Biggleswade Town led the other under 11s group on 12-points, leaving Pro Formance A in their wake, on seven points.

Going straight to semi-finals, Biggleswade would face second placed TFA United Leopards and showed incredible determination and attacking play, to see off their opponents 3-0. Pro Formance A would then make up for their second place finish in Group Two, by defeating King George Vipers.

Despite their incredible group and knockout stage form, Biggleswade were unable to sustain their tempo, and were beaten by a gritted Pro Formance A team, who took the title.

Under 12s

The under 12s group stages were a much tighter affair and just two points separated Pro Formance A and AC Finchley in Group One. Pro Formance A narrowly snatched the lead in the group, with a 2-0 victory in the final game.

They would be joined in first place by their fellow Pro Formance side, who edged out Enfield Town. There would be no all Pro Formance tie on this occasion though, as Pro Formance B lost 2-0 in the semi-final to AC Finchley.

Pro Formance A would make the final though, but needed a tight penalty shootout to make it past Enfield Town.

Their dominant victory over Pro Formance B appeared to inspire AC Finchley to victory against the A side. They showed no nerves in the final and claimed the last trophy of the day.
