Boreham Wood had to make do with a goalless draw in Cornwall against bottom-of-the-table Truro City in a match that was short of quality.
Luke Garrard named an unchanged starting lineup from Tuesday night’s win at Aldershot Town, with new signing Josh Landers coming in for Charles Clayden on the bench.
Wood had the game’s first chance when Abdul Abdulmalik played the ball to Zak Brunt, who fired just wide from outside the area on three minutes. A minute later, Will Dean had a similar chance for the Tinners, which was also off target. For most of the first half, Truro were able to play the windy conditions better than Wood, and they controlled a lot of possession early on.
On 21 minutes, Tom Dean played in Harry Charsley, whose shot was straight at Wood keeper Ted Curd. 10 minutes later, Max Kinsey’s shot was blocked by Charlie O’Connell just as it looked like it was going in. On 38 minutes, Lewis Richardson forced a good save from Tinners keeper Aidan Stone. Two minutes later, a lovely one-two between Abdulmalik and Brunt ended with the latter curling a shot just wide.
The Cornish side came out of the blocks quicker in the second half and, five minutes after the restart, a Tom Dean cross found Ryan Law, who fired over when he should have got it on target. Three minutes later, Abdulmalik went on a good run down the left, but his cross was met by Rush, but Stones was there to deny Wood’s number 32.
On 56 minutes, Richardson had a great chance to score, but he was unable to connect with James Clarke’s excellent cross. At this stage of the match, Abdulmalik was causing all sorts of problems for the Truro defence, and, on 69 minutes, he cut inside to shoot narrowly wide. Four minutes later, Connor Riley-Lowe forced Curd into a save. The match then petered out as neither side looked like getting the winner.
It was a disappointing game of football, not helped by difficult playing conditions due to a howling wind. Luke Garrard will want his team to get back to winning ways against Wembley-bound Wealdstone on Good Friday.
