Matt Rush joined Boreham Wood in December 2024 from Sutton United for an undisclosed fee. A clinical centre forward, Rush came through the academy at Southend United before gaining valuable experience during loan spells with Great Wakering Rovers, Harlow Town, Tonbridge Angels and Chelmsford City. He later enjoyed spells with Braintree Town, Aveley, Maidstone United and Sutton United, establishing himself as one of non-league football’s most prolific goalscorers.
Rush played a key role in Boreham Wood’s promotion-winning 2024/25 campaign, helping the club return to the National League at the first attempt via the National League South play-offs. He followed that with a sensational 2025/26 season, finishing as the Wood’s leading scorer with 33 goals in all competitions, including 26 in the National League. His outstanding goalscoring exploits helped Boreham Wood reach the National League Promotion Final and lift the National League Cup, cementing his reputation as one of the division’s most feared forwards.
