Concord Rangers 4-0 Boreham Wood

The FA Trophy

Match Report

It was a day to forget as the Wood suffered their heaviest defeat of the season on Canvey Island against fellow Conference South side Concord Rangers. It was an experimental Wood side that on the day didn’t deliver.

Gaffer Ian Allinson made five changes from the side that defeated Weston in midweek with important league fixtures coming up taking priority. Hickford came in to replace the suspended Josh Hill. Noto, Lipman, Moli and Thomas all came in for Morias, Angol, Montgomery and Shakes

The game started in the same way the league encounter ended two weeks ago.

Wood could have taken an early lead had the assistant not ruled Moli offside incorrectly.

From that moment though Concord took the game to Wood and took an early lead through Stokes. A ball over the top of the Wood defence lead to Reynolds heading out for a Concord Corner. Russell was forced into a good save. The resulting ball went out left where a ball back into the box allowed an unmarked Stokes to tap in for the hosts.

Wood looked to respond and Lipman ran onto a loose ball but a heavy touch allowed a strong challenge from King to win the ball.

A rare error from the Wood backline enabled Concord to double their lead, Reynolds and Brown over played and a poor clearance from Reynolds allowed White to play in Gardener who crossed for Taaffe to tap in

Woods best chance of the half fell to Reynolds, a Free Kick from Garrard, Reynolds rose highest with his header coming back off the cross bar.

Cox gave away a free kick on the right which Collins took left footed. Russell failed to deal with the free kick allowing another simple tap in for white.

Whichelow broke out from the Concord half played the ball into Moli’s feet and King went straight through the back of him earning a booking.

In the final minute of the half a cross in from the left after Hickford was unable to clear allowed Gardener to score Concords fourth of the afternoon.

Wood start the second half brightly, a Free Kick from 25 yards Lipman put wide of the post. Whichelow put in a cross which Reynolds could only head wide.

Stokes had an instinctive shot on the turn 25 yards out which just sails over Russell’s bar.

Moli gave away a free kick in the far corner of the pitch, which then resulted in a coming together of players with the referee giving Moli a booking.

Montgomery made some space down left, his incoming cross was dealt with and cleared by the beach boy’s defence

Noto was fouled on the edge of the 18 yards box, Montgomery’s cross was well cleared. Concord broke with Ogilvie though was stopped in his tracks by Brown.

Montgomery again down the left played in Angol, who got to the bye line laid it back to Noto, who placed the ball well over the bar.

Montgomery who was very lively since coming on had a snap shot just over after receiving the ball from Shakes

In added time Russell was forced to save well down to his left.

After elimination from the FA Trophy, Wood can now solely turn their attentions to their league campaign
