Solihull Moors v Boreham Wood
Saturday 18th January 2020, 3.00pm
SportsNation.bet Stadium, Vanarama National League

This Saturday, Boreham Wood travel to the West Midlands where we match up against 6th place Solihull Moors in the Vanarama National League.

Without a game for two weeks, Boreham Wood’s last fixture was against Stockport County away from home where we managed to come away with an impressive 3-1 victory.

Whereas, Solihull played twice last week, albeit in FA Trophy action and disappointingly lost 1-0 First Round replay against National League North outfit Darlington.

THE CONTEXT

Luke Garrard saw his sides unbeaten run extended to 11 games after an inspiring 3-1 win in our last time out away to Stockport County in front of bumper crowd at Edgeley Park.

Having not started in the previous two fixtures due to injury, Tyrone Marsh came back with a bang and scored a brace inside the first 22 minutes upon his return, his second goal was a spectacular effort from 30 yards which found the top left-hand corner.

Kabongo Tshimanga continued his fine form with a goal just before half-time after a smart Wood interchange down the left hand side released Sorba Thomas, whose cut back found Tshimanga who finished expertly to send the visitors into the break three goals to the good at the break.

It proved an almost impossible task for the hosts to get anything from the game, being three goals down and Wood playing some fantastic football, which meant Devante Rodney’s goal in the 51st minute turned out to be a consolation as the game finished 3-1 to the Wood.

SOLIHULL MOORS RECENT FORM

The Moors currently sit 6th place in the National League on the same points as the Wood but have a game in hand.

Despite being in a play off position, Solihull have suffered a slight dip in form recently and have only won twice in their previous eight fixtures in all competitions.

Solihull have been immense at the back this season and have conceded just 28 goals in 28 games meaning they have the best defensive record in the league.

The Moors have somewhat struggled in front of goal so far this season, especially as of late and have scored the least amount of goals in the top 8 in the National League.

SOLIHULL MOORS PLAYER TO WATCH

Ryan Boot, Goalkeeper

Ryan Boot has played every minute for Solihull Moors in the league this season and is our player to watch for this Saturdays match day preview.

The 25-year-old shot stopper signed for the Moors at the start of the 2018/19 campaign and has featured 64 times for his side since.

Conceding 28 goals in 28 games this season, Boot is the goalkeeper with the best defensive record in the league and has picked up several team of the week nominations along the way.

Ex-England international goalkeeper Tim Flowers saw potential in Boot and his decision paid off as the goalkeeper helped his side finish second in the National League last season before being beaten by AFC Fylde in the play-offs.

LAST TIME WE MET

Boreham Wood 1-0 Solihull Moors, Vanarama National League, 5th October 2019

Tyrone Marsh and Kabongo Tshimanga came close for Wood at the start of the game but failed to convert their chances as Ryan Boot made a string of good saves.

In a game of very few chances, Adam McDonnell came close as his free kick struck the bar with 10 minutes left to play.

In the 93rd minute Tyrone Marsh managed to seal the three points for the Wood as his shot on the turn found the back of the net following a strong of Wood corners.

IN FOCUS: MARK RICKETTS

Club captain Mark Ricketts has been crucial for Boreham Wood this season and is our man in focus for this week’s match day preview.

Ricketts signed for the Wood at the start of the 2016/17 campaign after enjoying a successful seven-year spell at Woking.

The 35-year-old midfielder captained Woking when they were promoted from the Conference South and helped them secure a top ten finish in the Conference the following season.

‘Ricko’ was made club captain immediately after signing for the Wood and has become a real fans favourite at Meadow Park.
