Wood make another trip into uncharted territory this Saturday, when they visit Sincil Bank, the home of Lincoln City.
The fixture is another reminder of how far the local side have come, another ex Football League side, another impressive 10000 plus stadium.
Lincoln City is a club long associated with the Football League, who dropped into the Conference National at the end of the 2010-2011 season, along with Stockport County. It was the fifth time they had suffered the fate, however this was the only occasion they did not go straight back up the following season.
The Imps highest finish in the National League to date was the season before last when they finished in 14th spot. This season they are one place above that currently, with ten points, three more than The Wood.
Their points tally is made up of four draws and two wins from eight matches and their unbeaten form at home is something Ian Allinson will be keen to redress. Our current run of three winless matches continued at home to Grimsby Town last weekend.
The boys will be keen to carry on the form they showed in the last fifteen minutes of that game, when Charlie MacDonald reduced the deficit in the 80th minute before almost adding an unexpected second minutes later.
City under the tutelage of Chris Moyses have freshened up their squad for this season. In fact eight of the players given the number one to eleven jerseys are new recruits. Moyses has assembled a side with a wealth of experience from both the Football League and the Vanarama National League.
One new signing to already make his mark on the season is the Leagues joint leading marksman Matt Rhead, who signed from Mansfield Town. His 70th minute equaliser at home to Wrexham last Saturday was his sixth of the campaign to date, ending the visitors four match winning streak.
Wood fans are reminded the Club are again running minibuses up to Lincolnshire this Saturday, a successful scheme to date that has helped boost Wood’s away following to unprecedented levels, which the Gaffer has been keen to recognise. “ Can I thank the travelling Wood army for your support, once again at Dover it was fantastic and you made more noise than all the Dover supporters put together.
It’s great to see so many of you turning out to support the team away from home, it is really appreciated by the whole of the changing room and every player has passed comment on how much noise you are making.” With a full squad to choose from there is hope that Wood can put some points on the board against their illustrious opponents.
