Wood travel to face Bishop’s Stortford this Tuesday evening with a place in the Final at stake. This will be the first time the two sides have met since an epic emotional evening two seasons ago when the Wood won the Cup in a penalty shoot out.

Lee Angol had given Wood the early lead with a wonder strike before Michael Richins equalised from a corner after 17 minutes. After that a war of attrition saw the teams deadlocked right through to a penalty shoot our after extra time. There was blood and bandages, hoarse Managers and real drama leading up to James Russell saving three penalties late into the night to bring the Cup home.

This season Stortford find themselves comfortably in mid table in the Vanarama Conference South. They currently occupy twelfth spot after a tough run of three matches against the top two Ebbsfleet United and Maidstone United, along with relegation threatened Havant and Waterlooville, losing all three by the odd goal.

The Blues have already won through three rounds of this years competition. A 4-0 away win at Leverstock Green was followed by an impressive 3-0 win at Cup holders Hemel Hempstead. A hard fought Quarter Final was decided by a Mikel Suarez strike to dispatch Ware, setting up this tie.

The winners will face either Hitchin Town or St Albans City in the Final. Stortford Boss Rod Stringer has vowed to field his strongest possible side for the game, which has attractive reduced admission prices of just £6 for Adults, £4 for students and OAP’s, with under 16’s admitted for £3.

Wood Gaffer Luke Garrard will be looking to put Saturday’s result behind him in a competition that he is taking seriously, prior to our first ever trip to face Southport this coming Saturday.

Wood fans are encouraged to make the relatively short trip up the M11 to cheer on the boys to hopefully a Cup Final!
