MATCH PREVIEW: BASINGSTOKE TOWN VS BOREHAM WOOD

18 September 2014

Six Pointer This Saturday!

 by John Mead.

Wood travel to their closest rivals at the top of the table this Saturday, given the Hampshire sides game in hand. The Stoke sit four points behind us in fifth spot currently after leading the table earlier this season.

After a surprising first day defeat at home to Hemel Hempstead, Stokes’ season took off with aplomb. They showed their credentials with victories against fancied sides, notably beating Bromley 0-3 on the road and a 1-0 win at home to Ebbsfleet United. Further wins against Bath City 0-4, Hayes and Yeading United 2-0 and victory at Bishops Stortford last time out by the odd goal in five sees the side managed by Jason Bristow pushing for top spot.

Their current top scorer is Chris Flood who has adapted superbly to life in The Vanarama Conference South after joining from Winchester City at the start of the season. Well travelled Manny Williams has one less having contributed four goals so far, with the only player in the current squad to have featured for Wood, Liam Enver-Marum scoring twice.

Just last week Bristow finally found his man to replace Wes Daly after his departure to Hemel Hempstead at the start of the season. In comes 33 year old ex Gosport Borough Captain Jamie Brown who will surely make his full league debut on Saturday.

It promises to be a tense and enjoyable affair with both sides looking to maintain their fine starts to the season. One thing is for sure, the football will be of the very highest standard! Your support as ever will be greatly appreciated. Hope to see you all there!
