Pre Season Friendly

Boreham Wood 1-2 AFC Wimbledon

Boreham Wood FC’s Elite squad hosted an AFC Wimbledon side in what was a close fought pre season friendly.

It was Wimbledon who took the lead midway through the First Half after great play from their wide man who delivered an inch perfect cross for the lone striker to head home from close range.

Wood responded well and were soon level after a training ground routine that saw Jamie Lumsden work space in the box for him to guide his effort into the far bottom corner giving the keeper no chance.

Both sides came close to taking the lead but it was the Dons who capitalised on a defensive error, with First Year Stephen Akoto misjudging a bounce and allowed for the Wimbledon Frontman to drive his effort in the far corner of the net. Wood had the opportunity to equalise but second half substitute Maxwell Holland could only guide his effort goal bound.

Wood travel down to Hogwood next Wednesday where an Under 16s and Under 18s will take on Reading’s academy, allowing them to pit there wits against the championship outfit.

Academy Director Luke Garrard was happy with the work out “we played some really good football in spells today, and showed glimpses of what could be a very exciting year.  We have recruited a few new faces and they are getting used to the manner in which we like to play, it may have seemed foreign to them at first but we are already seeing a marked improvement in the short space of time we’ve had them.  We now prepare to travel across to Reading to play against their 16s & 18s in a game which will be a huge test for our boys, Reading have been great the last few seasons allowing us to bring squads to help them in their pre season.”
