Boreham Wood progressed into the semi-finals of the Herts Senior Cup, with a 0-3 win at Hitchin Town.

Shaun Jeffers (8) put the visitors ahead early on, with Danny Woodards doubling the scores in the 49th minute.

Michael Folivi (57) then earned and converted a penalty shortly before the hour mark to confirm the win, over a battling Hitchin side.

The Wood lined up in their usual 3-5-2 formation, with Ollie Harfield making his debut on the left, Ricky Shakes partnered Mark Ricketts in midfield and Shaun Jeffers came in up front alongside Folivi.

Hitchin started at a fast tempo, however the visitors were ahead inside 10 minutes. Jeffers had latched onto Blair Turgott’s whipped free kick and poked home from the back post.

The hosts looked to respond straight away, but Lewis Rolfe fired over from close range. Hitchin then saw two separate goal-line scrambles somehow scrapped clear by the Wood defence.

Dan Webb followed up these attempts with a powerful header, but it was blocked wide.

With Hitchin on top, Shakes looked to react and he fed through Turgott, but he was pulled back for offside.

Alex Davey leapt highest to meet Harfield’s corner, but nodded past the post.

Robbie Burns was active at both ends of the pitch, the forward broke up a Wood attack led by Jeffers and Turgott, before seeing a long-range effort well saved by Grant Smith in the Wood half.

Turley was proving a threat at set-pieces, but nodded subsequent attempts wide, as the Wood continued to dominate proceedings.

The visitors had doubled their lead just minutes into the second half when Danny Woodards made a late run into the box and knocked a powerful header past Michael Johnson.

It was then three shortly before the 60-minute mark, as Folivi was brought down in the area by Rolfe. The forward stepped up and confidently struck the spot-kick into the bottom corner.

The on-loan forward could have had a second five minutes later, were it not for an acrobatic Johnson, who held Folivi’s powerful curling effort.

Jeffers broke up-field and cut inside on his marker, before lashing a strike from the edge of the area, but it crashed off Webb and away from danger.

In a similar position, Turgott weaved his way through the defence and drilled a low effort from distance, that flew narrowly wide.

The attacking midfielder used the same trickery to then beat his man once again and this time guided his shot on target, but Johnson saved.
