Boreham Wood ran out 1-0 winners against Hitchin Town, in their second friendly of pre-season.

Morgan Ferrier scored for the second time in as many matches, netting a coolly slotted penalty in the first half.

The Wood made two changes from the defeat to Brentford, with Jamal Fyfield and Angelo Balanta replacing Manny Parry and Connor Smith.

Hitchin made the first move of the game, drawing an impressive stop from the trialist goalkeeper, following a volleyed effort from Michael King.

Keiran Murtagh looked to test Josh Mollison from range, but the stopper was equal to his low driven effort.

Ferrier was then brought down in the penalty area by Kieran McCaffrey and the referee pointed to the spot. The forward stepped up and struck his second penalty goal this pre-season.

Femi Ilesanmi could have doubled the lead moments later, but slid his effort narrowly wide of the far post, having worked his way into the area.

The hosts reacted well and fashioned a chance themselves, with King feeding Ezra Forde one-on-one with the Wood’s trialist ‘keeper, but he sent his shot wide of the post.

Delighted passing play between Murtagh and Ferrier set the former through, but his low shot was held by Mollison.

Trey Charles countered for the hosts and nicked the ball around Fyfield, but slid his effort wide of the mark.

The second half was a quieter affair, with Luke Garrard making five half-time changes. Balanta’s curled free-kick was the first real action of the second period, but it was well held by Mollison in the Canaries’ goal.

Slick footwork from substitute Sorba Thomas down the right channel saw him slip his marker, but his low cross was blocked and thrashed clear.

Both sides struggled to fashion chances in the remaining half an hour, with Jack Green sending a shot into the stands, from long-range.

The home side had a late call for a penalty turned away, after Robbie Burns had gone down in the area, leaving the Wood to see out the remaining few minutes with ease.
