The Wood pulled out their best performance of pre-season yet as they blasted seven goals past Wingate & Finchley with just one in reply, running out as 1-7 winners.

Bradley Sach opened the scoring early into the first half, with Kane Smith, a brace from Bruno Andrade, and a penalty from Bradley Ash making it five before half-time.

Andrade completed his hat-trick after the break before Paul Benson headed past a sorry Shane Gore to complete the rout.

The Wood started the game strongly, attacking with every opportunity and got the rewards for their effort inside ten minutes when Keiran  Murtagh curled a cross onto the head of Sach who nodded past Wingate & Finchley stopper Gore.

The equally lively Ash then spun his marker, and drove a ball low to the ‘keepers left who palmed just wide.

Kane Smith looped the ball over the top of the midfield towards Ash; the young striker brought it down, and looked to round the ‘keeper but the home side recovered to clear.

The Wood continued to dominate possession and Smith drove down the right side once more, he pulled the ball back into the box, but no one could meet his low cross.

Luke Garrard’s side doubled their lead when Ricky Shakes found space on the left-wing and swung the ball low into the box, where the late run of Smith waiting to volley it past Gore.

It was a classy third from the Wood as Andrade arrived at the edge of the box to leather a shot into the bottom left corner.

Andrade doubled his tally shortly after, a Wood through ball was fumbled by the home defenders before the attacking midfielder pounced and poked it past the Finchley stopper.

Ash was desperate for a goal and nearly had it just moments later, the striker met another through ball and thrashed it at goal with his first touch, but it flew over the crossbar.

Garrard’s men were then on the defending side of a Finchley counter attack, the home team flew down the left-wing but Dave Stephens chased back to slide clear.

However, the home side struggled to break the Wood’s dominance and brought Smith down for a penalty in the process, with Ash coolly slotting the spot-kick to the ‘keepers left.

A sixth was added early into the second half, Andrade bullied his way into the home box and sliced the ball home for his hat-trick.

Wingate and Finchley pulled one back in the 59th minute when Beckles-Richards found space in the Wood box and placed Charles-Smith’s cross past Grant Smith.

Benson made it seventh heaven shortly after, he broke free from his marker and nodded a lofted cross past Gore.

Searching for his second of the evening, Beckles-Richards broke from his marker and blasted the ball at Smith, but the stopper smartly pushed it away.
