Manager Duggout

After much speculation in recent weeks linking a number of clubs to many of our players, the summer transfer window has thankfully closed. But not before we secured the loan signing of Bristol Rovers striker Jamie Lucas earlier today..

After what has clearly been our busiest summer transfer window ever. We are really pleased with the business that we’ve done. It’s true to say, that the club did turn down a number of offers for our players from a host of clubs over the last three weeks as it wanted to keep this talented squad intact and together..

Chairman Danny Hunter said “We’ve obviously had a really big change around this summer in regards to our playing personnel. That turnaround was much needed after such a well documented struggle throughout last season. As such after the dust settled in May, we retained only six lads from that squad and we now hope this decision means we never have to feel that type of pressure again”..

So after I sat down with my young manager in May, it meant that both Luke Garrard and our club secretary Billy Hunter have had a very busy summer.. They’ve both done fantastically well, in what was their first summer transfer window working together and they have managed to improve the squad enormously by bringing in some fabulous talent”..

Hunter continued “We’ve also managed to do some great loan business and we’ve got in three very good long term loanee’s, In Anthony Jeffrey from Forest Green, Aaron Kuhl from Reading and now Jamie Lucas from Bristol Rovers. These boys will we hope strengthen our ranks, progress their own careers and as such I want to say a very big thank you to all our friends at the three loanee’s parent clubs. Everyone of them has been really fair with me and have been great to deal with”..

“Our dressing room thus far has suffered a bit of a nightmare with injuries to key players. That said we’re still progressing quietly and I’ve got a very good feeling about this season and this group of players. Our management team, our dressing room and our day to day staff are really focused and it seems very settled and that will only breed confidence in what we’re doing”..

“Yes it’s true that I’ve turned down offers from a number of clubs a few of our players during this transfer window. So I’m just glad that the window has finally closed in all honesty. I am happy i’ve done that, as it shows our town, our supporters and our sponsors, the ambition and belief that myself, the staff and our dressing room have in what we’re trying to achieve here”..

“If we can continue to improve both on and off the pitch. If we can really start to grow our support base. Then I’ll continue to back the club, back my talented young manager and back our talented dressing room”..

“That said we are going to need a lot more of our locals to realise just whats on their doorstep and what their missing. The strides we’ve made at Meadow Park in recent years is in many ways quite remarkable. We are all aware that we’re a small club but by being small it does help us at times, as we can improve ourselves at a pace that we can both afford and control.. We are a well run club, we are an ambitious club, we have built a good structure and we’ve built decent side. So there’s lots of reasons to be positive”..

Hunter concluded “I can only hope that the people of Borehamwood, Elstree, Bushey, Radlett, Shenley, Hertfordshire and North London. Will consider dividing their loyalties in regards to the other big local pro clubs and give us a chance.. I honestly believe that If they came down to Meadow Park, they would really enjoy themselves and if we managed to get another two or three hundred extra fans through the turnstile, it would make such a difference to us and give us a real chance of challenging for a play off place in the future”..
