Following the conclusion of the 2022-23 season, Boreham Wood FC can now confirm those players who are departing Meadow Park and wish them the very best of luck in the future, whilst also confirming those players retained for the 2023-24 season onwards. We have added a short narrative to each departure to ensure the Wood Army are clear on how things stand and how things have transpired.

In terms of Mark Ricketts, Mark still feels he has a few years of football still in him and who are we to argue with anything that man says. His leadership, his service and his demeanour as a person means we don’t just lose a player, but we lose a piece of our hearts, and we lose a man amongst men. We hope that when Mark does bring his playing career to an end, that his coaching career might well start with us, who knows? Whatever happens in the future, Mark leaves us after seven incredible seasons as possibly the greatest and most successful skipper this club has ever known, and his legacy is already secured.

Big Will Evans has departed the club firstly due to his location and secondly due to Scunthorpe United’s financial package. Despite numerous conversations and two improved contract offers, Will wanted to return North to be closer to home and his young family. During our initial discussions in January we understood and agreed that if he still felt that way at the end of the season after two amazing years’ service, that he could go with our best wishes. Will was then made an offer by his new employers that in truth was just too good to turn down, and we wish Will nothing but success with his new club.

Danny Newton, after one season with us, has not had his option taken up and we thank Danny for his huge contribution in our run to the FA Cup 3rd round and in our play-off push that ended in the semi-final defeat at Notts County. Thank you, Danny.

Josh Rees, after two great seasons, has not been retained and we thank Josh for an incredible two-years of service, where his performances and goals were a big part of our success. We also understood that Josh wanted more playing time next season, rightly so, and that might prove to be more difficult at Meadow Park next season. Thank you, Josh.

Dennon Lewis is another not being retained, and we can only thank Dennon for his two-years of service, his part in our run to the FA Cup 3rd round and his contribution to our play-off push this season. He is now part of the history of our football club and is well respected by both players and staff alike. Thank you, Dennon.

George Williams, after one season with us, departs Meadow Park. George’s appearances in a Wood shirt were limited, but he was the consummate professional throughout his time with us. We thank George for his efforts in a Wood shirt.

Zak Brunt and George Broadbent have now returned to their parent club Sheffield United and though we would love to take them both next season, that is beyond our control, though conversations are ongoing with the players and agents. Thank you, Zak and George.
