Boreham Wood U19’s secured their first 3 points of the season as they travelled to play Maidenhead United’s U19’s. The U19’s went 1-0 down early on in the game to the Magpies despite being the better side leading up to the goal.
However, the Wood managed to build on their good start and the goals soon came. Firstly from Sandro Freitas, then joined by a 2nd from Kieron Owusu and to round the half off, Captain William Wickham added a 3rd making the score a more convincing 3-1 at the break.
Half-time – Maidenhead United 1-3 Boreham Wood
The second half really did emphasise the saying ‘it’s a game of two halves’, as the intensity dropped off and neither side really stamped their authority. Yet, Wood still managed to seal the win after Darnell Kithambo slotted away the 4th after an inspired cross from Kieron Owusu.
Full-time – Maidenhead United 1-4 Boreham Wood
This was a great confidence boost for the Wood youngsters going into the FA Youth Cup tie against the same team next Tuesday at Meadow Park, albeit at Under 18 level.
Wood Academy Manager Cameron Mawer commented, “Across the whole academy we have been desperate to get a home draw, so they get the opportunity to get into the first team dressing room, to feel like a first team player, that can only raise your game even more.”
