Boreham Wood FC are delighted to announce the permanent signing of combative midfielder Gus Mafuta on a one-year deal with an additional one-year option.

Gus, who started out with Colchester United’s youth team, later went on to Bristol City and captained their under-23’s team. With loan spells at clubs like; Weston Super Mare and Nuneaton Borough where he gained valuable senior experience within the game, he was later released by ‘the Robins’ in 2015. Mafuta then signed for Gateshead FC ahead of the 2015/16 season where he made a great impact in over 60 appearances for the Club.

His strength and powerful performances earned Gus a move to the Class of 92’s Salford City in 2017, where he started in the Promotion Final victory at Wembley over AFC Fylde in 2017/18. Following a two-year stint at ‘the Ammies’ Mafuta was then snapped up by fellow league competitors Hartlepool United ahead of the 2019/20 season where he made over 30 appearances in a curtailed season, notching three goals during his time at the Club.

Midfielder, Gus Mafuta, is the Club’s latest signing of the 2020/21 season. Upon Gus’ signing, a delighted Luke Garrard said, “I’m extremely happy to have Gus on board. He’s a player we have courted for sometime so I’m thrilled to have secured his signature for next season. He brings with him great experience having won back-to-back promotions with Salford City and is still very young.

“Gus is a powerful midfielder that I honestly believe will compliment what we have in the building. I want to thank the Chairman for getting this done, and also for his continuous support in putting together a competitive squad  to hopefully compete at the top end of the National League again next campaign.”

Welcome to Meadow Park, Gus!
