Quba Gordon and Ben Goodliffe, celebrate with Kyle Roberts, after the latter put Wood two up at Preston Park.

Wood Under 18’s progressed into the 3rd qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup after a comprehensive victory over Harefield United.

A game the Wood dominated from start to finish could quite easily have seen a bigger scoreline had the finishing in the final third been more clinical.

The passing and movement of the youngsters was simply to much for Harefield to cope with. The exceptional Alex Morgan, one of three Under 16’s in the Wood squad opened the scoring early on. Picking the ball up on right flank, he drove towards goal and from just outside the eighteen yard box he unleashed a fierce drive into the bottom right hand corner of the net, giving the home custodian no chance at all.

Despite having much of the possession the boys had to be patient before getting their second just before half time. It was Roberts who started and finished the move after beating two defenders inside the box he curled the ball past the keeper into the top left hand corner.

In the second period it was once again Wood who controlled the game, and could quite easily have added to their lead, but for some wayward finishing. It was Morgan though who got the third and what a goal it was to. Out on the right Morgan received the ball at chest height, his control was superb and on the volley he smashed it past the keeper who should have done better, but was beaten by the pace of the shot.

The youngsters will now take on Great Wakering Rovers in the final qualifying round of the competition before the pro clubs come in.

The tie will be played at Meadow Park week commencing 19th October.
