After trailing 2-0 to Barton Rover Reserves on aggregate after the 1st leg of the Suburban League Cup, ‘Wood’s’ youthful Reserves come into the game looking to overturn that two goal deficit.

Their difficult task was made even more difficult, when after twenty minutes they were 2-0 down on the day, and 4-0 down on aggregate, against a Rovers side who are top of their Suburban Northern League.

‘Wood’s’ fight back took a deflating blow when second half substitute Dino Rubinia was shown a straight red card for a late tackle on a Barton midfielder. However Boreham Wood continued to become more and more dominant, however the vital goal alluded them for the large majority of the second half. It wasn’t until the 90th minute when David Hutton bent into the top left hand corner of the net and forced the game into extra time.

With the tie now level, there was only ever going to be one winner, and an extra time double from striker Simeon Akinola secured a memorial fight back by Boreham Wood’s Reserves to advance to the next round of the Suburban League Cup.
