Boreham Wood Football club are absolutely delighted to announce the signing of the very experienced centre half Matt Paine from Braintree Town.
The 28 year old who often played centre mid for Braintree under Danny Cowley last season, Has clocked up over 175 games for the Iron.
Paine Joins the Wood after narrowly seeing Braintree miss out on a trip to Wembley, when losing out to eventual play off winners Grimsby Town, 2-1 after extra time of their semi final second leg..
Paine has been an instrumental member of the Braintree Town squad that have established themselves at National League level. His performances last season in both central defence and in centre midfield, have according to our manager Luke Garrard “been considerable and a major factor in Braintree achieving their best ever finish of 3rd in the National League”.
On getting his man Gaffer Luke Garrard commented further “I’m delighted to of secured Matts signature and his experience, ability and versatility will serve us well. It’s a signature that I’ve targeted since the season came to an end and i’m again very grateful to our Chairman for backing me on this”..
“Though we did have a talented squad last season, I always felt we needed one or two additional leaders to help get us over the line in certain games. In Painey, Kenny Davis, who we signed a few weeks ago and with the likes of Joe Devera, Dave Stephens, Danny Woodards, Ben Nunn and Conor Clifford, that problem will now solve itself”.. He concluded.
