Sutton United V Boreham Wood
New Years Day – 1st January 2012 – Kick off 3.00pm
The Borough Sports Ground – Gander Green Lane

This New Year’s Day, Boreham Wood travel to Surrey to play Sutton United in the Blue Square Bet South Division, Kick Off 3.00pm.

The two sides met just one week ago on Boxing Day at Meadow Park. On that day ‘Wood’ and the ‘U’s played out a 1-1 draw, after Sutton scored a 93rd minute equaliser to take a point with them back to Gander Green Lane.

After a very bright start and scoring an early goal through Michael Thallisitis, ‘Wood’ sat back and absorbed a lot of pressure, including a lobbed shot from ‘U’s midfielder Harry Beautyman which hit the bar, to take their one goal advantage into the interval. After the break Sutton continued to pile on the pressure and their efforts were rewarded when substitute Romone McCrae bundled home his first league goal of the season in stoppage time from Joel Ledgister’s low cross.

Sutton United currently occupy the last play off place in 5th position, having recorded 39 points from their 21 games so far this season. Sutton’s recent form has seen them win just one game in their last six, so when ‘Wood’ travel to Gander Green Lane on New Year’s Day Sutton will be eager to improve their recent form with a win.

However so will Boreham Wood. After a poor start to the season, ‘Wood’ pulled themselves back into the play off pack by mid-November after a run of six consecutive league victories, however more recently ‘Wood’ are without a win in their last four games, and will travel to Sutton to try make amends and attempt to stay in touch with the play off teams.

So come along and cheer the boys on, as ‘Wood’ try to the start the New Year with a good performance and a win.

C’MON THE WOOD!
