On Friday, Septemer 8th, Boreham Wood Football Club will be restarting the Mencap and Borehamwood Day Centre football training sessions.

The sessions are run by Mark McManus and Cameron Mawer at Meadow Park and have been hugely successful.

The training focuses on improving the player’s overall ability as a footballer, whether that be tackling, shooting or dribbling.

Each session features a warm-up and a variety of technical drills, before finishing with a series of matches.

Boreham Wood Football Club have now been successfully working with Mencap and the Borehamwood Day Centre for over a year.

Both Mencap and the Day Centre are all-inclusive groups in Borehamwood and they run a variety of activities from sport, such as football, to arts and crafts days.

Boreham Wood FC have run a number of initiatives with the groups, one of which being against an Arsenal XI in pre-season. The two groups were the flagbearers for the fixture, which was the official opening of the club’s new Premier League standard Desso pitch.

There was also the Christmas dinner, which was put on by Boreham Wood Chairman Danny Hunter, and was attended by all first team players and members of the two groups.

Cameron Mawer said that he is excited to start the training sessions again: “As I’ve said before, these sessions are the highlight of my week.

“It is brilliant, they love football and we get them out onto the pitch and they really enjoy it. They loved the Arsenal experience and I know that they are all itching to get back out onto the turf and play some football themselves.”
