Match Preview
Yeovil Town v Boreham Wood
Saturday 2nd November 2019, 3:00pm
Huish Park, National League
On Saturday, Boreham Wood travel to Somerset as we match up against Yeovil Town who currently sit 3rd in the Vanarama National League at Huish Park.
Yeovil Town came out 3-0 winners in their recent fixture against Haringey Borough in the Fourth Qualifying Round of The FA Cup.
Whereas, Boreham Wood come into this fixture on the back of a goalless draw against league strugglers Aldershot Town.
THE CONTEXT
Boreham Wood hosted Aldershot Town on Tuesday night in the National League and a mediocre performance from the home side meant they had to settle for a point.
The Wood looked like the only side that were going to win the game as the Shots offered very little threat to Wood goalkeeper Nathan Ashmore.
Wood came agonisingly close in the dying embers of the game, hitting the woodwork from a Tom Champion bullet header, whilst also having a number of shots cleared off the line and balls into the box, but it wasn’t meant to be on the night.
Whereas, Yeovil Town secured their place in the First Round Proper of the FA Cup after a Chris Dagnall brace helped his side to a comfortable 3-0 away win.
YEOVIL TOWN RECENT FORM
Yeovil Town enter the game in blistering form having lost just twice in their last 10 league games and sit in an impressive third place in the Vanarama National League.
Impressive stats are seen across the board for the Glovers who have the fourth best goal scoring record with 31 goals, as well as the third best defensive record conceding 20 goals in 18 games.
Striker Rhys Murphy, whose signature they captured in the summer from Chelmsford City, has scored an impressive 9 goals so far in the league and currently sits third in the goal scoring charts, alongside Wood’s Kabongo Tshimanga and Tyrone Marsh.
YEOVIL TOWN PLAYER TO WATCH
Rhys Murphy, Striker
Rhys Murphy comes into this weekend’s fixture in good form having scored five goals in his last five games in all competitions and will be a player Boreham Wood will have to look out for.
Murphy’s contract with National League South Club Chelmsford City expired at the end of the 2018/19 season, and after scoring 28 goals in all competitions, he was heavily sought after this close season by a number of National League and Football League outfits.
The 28-year-old Irishman, who came through Arsenal FC’s Academy, signed at Huish Park in June 2019, with the Glovers beating off a number of other Club’s attempts to secure the frontman’s signature.

IN FOCUS: FEMI ILESANMI
Attacking wing back Femi Ilesanmi has been in fine form in recent weeks for the Wood and is our player “in focus” for this week’s match preview against Yeovil Town.
Ilesanmi left Boreham Wood at the end of the 2016/17 season, but then re-signed for the Club at the start of the 2018/19 campaign, after having a spell at Dover, winning their Player of the Season award.
The 28-year-old full back has arguably been one of the Wood’s most consistent players this season contributing to the attack whilst being solid in his defensive duties, too.
