Match Preview
Woking v Boreham Wood
Saturday 28th September 2019, 3.00pm
The Laithwaite Community Stadium, Vanarama National League

This Saturday, Boreham Wood make the short trip to the Laithwaite Community Stadium where they will face high flying Woking, who currently sit third in the Vanarama National League. Both sides look to bounce back after suffering defeats on Tuesday night. The Wood’s narrow 2-1 defeat to Notts County saw them slip down to 18th place in the league standings.

THE CONTEXT

Boreham Wood manager Luke Garrard will look to see an improved performance from his side after Tuesday night’s home defeat which ended their three-game unbeaten run.

Woking’s recent away defeat to Bromley saw them knocked off first place and down to third. This defeat ended an impressive 10 match unbeaten streak after not losing formerly since the second game of the season to Aldershot Town.

WOKING RECENT FORM

Woking host 18th place Boreham Wood having not picked up all three points in any of their previous five games in the Vanarama National League, after 4 draws and a defeat in their last five matches.

Although Woking boss Alan Dowson has seen his side dip in form recently, they still hold an impressive league position of third, being only four points away from top spot.

Prior to Woking’s visit to Chorley last Saturday, they sat comfortably at the top of the tree in first position. At that stage of the season they had only suffered one defeat in the league which came on the second game of the season at home to Aldershot Town in a slender 1-0 loss.

Woking have only conceded 12 goals this season in the league, which is the lowest in the entire division, and the former league leaders also have the joint second-best goal difference of +9.

WOKING PLAYER TO WATCH

Jake Hyde, Striker

Woking’s striker Jake Hyde is currently the joint second top scorer in the Vanarama National League with 7 goals in 12 games, just one goal behind Boreham Wood’s star-man Kabongo Tshimanga.

Hyde was Woking’s joint top scorer in the National league South last season where the striker’s 15 goals in all competitions helped the club gain promotion to the Vanarama National League.

LAST TIME WE MET

Woking 0-0 Boreham Wood (Saturday 24th February 2018, National League)

Boreham Wood entered the game targeting a fifth straight win which would have taken them into third spot in the league standings.

The Wood dominated the majority of the first half having several chances to break to deadlock but failed to capitalise.

It was a sad storyline in the end as any momentum either side could build was halted after Damien Lathrope had to receive extensive treatment which caused a lengthy break in play.

Lathrope had to leave the field on a stretcher and eventually the Stadium in an ambulance, as play continued neither side could create any goal scoring opportunity’s and the points were shared as the game finished 0-0.

IN FOCUS: SORBA THOMAS

Wood starlet Sorba Thomas has received two consecutive man of the match awards in his previous games for Boreham Wood and is our player ‘in focus’ in this week’s match preview. The 20-year-old was a constant threat for Wood on Tuesday evening and won a penalty to claw Wood back into the game when he got brought down in the penalty area and Tyrone Marsh converted from the spot.

Thomas scored his first professional goal last Saturday in our 4-0 victory over Stockport County, also picking up the man of the match award as mentioned previously.

The man in form has proved a key asset to Luke Garrard as he provided versatility playing in the number 10 role, left-wing back and right-wing back during Tuesday night’s game under the lights, as well as part of the front two on previous occasions.
