Wood travel to the Herts/Essex border this coming Tuesday evening to face Essex Senior League side Sawbridgeworth Town in the 2nd Round of the Herts Senior Challenge Cup.
It is a competition that Wood won two seasons ago defeating Bishop’s Stortford in a penalty shoot out. Last season the Final was again reached, but on that occasion Hemel Hempstead lifted the Cup with a narrow 1-0 victory.
This is Wood’s first game in the competition this season, whilst their opponents the Robins overcame a tricky tie against Minerva South Spartan League Premier Division leaders London Colney, winning 1-0 in the 1st Round.

The Robins were leading the Essex Senior League until recently. However two straight defeats against Wadham Lodge and FC Romania saw those two sides rise above them. Sawbridgeworth are currently 5th in a very tight league, having won thirteen ties, drawing 4 and losing 4 so far.

With a busy Christmas schedule looming, with Wood in league action three times in eight days, Luke Garrard will be forced to choose his side wisely; “ Obviously we want to do well in this competition, but it is important to stay injury free. I would like to explore some new formation’s as we look to increase our goals for record, which is the only thing preventing us climbing the table.”

The prize for the victors is a plum home tie against Watford in the Quarter Final.
