Boreham Wood v Forest Green Rovers

by John Mead.

Tuesday night sees the visit of long serving National League members Forest Green Rovers to Meadow Park.

It is the first time Rovers have ever visited and with two 1-0 wins under their belts at the time of writing, early indications are that this may well be the year they finally make the step up to League Football. A headed goal from 33 year old Rovers legend Jon “The Beast” Parkin secured an opening day win at Altrincham, before a deflected effort from new signing Aaron O’Connor earned the side all three points at home to Welling United.

The Green Devils reside in Nailsworth, a Gloucestershire town near Stroud. They have been at the top table of Non League football for a record seventeen seasons, although have twice been reprieved from relegation during that period. Last season they recorded a best ever finish of fifth, losing out to Bristol Rovers in the Play Off Semi Finals.

Three of their established players Elliott Frear, Robert Sinclair and Clovis Kamdjo joined after the demise of Salisbury City. They have strengthened close season with the signing of Keanu Marsh- Brown a winger signed from Barnet, from whom there are high expectations. The winger scored 14 goals for The Bees in 53 appearances.

There are however familiar faces amongst their set up faces who know Meadow Park only too well.
Jamie Day has joined ranks with manager Ady Pennock, acting as his assistant. Day has visited both as a player and a manager with both Welling United and Ebbsfleet United.

Another close season signing the striker Delano Sam-Yorke will also remember Meadow Park during his spells with Basingstoke Town and Cambridge United . Charlie Clough, undoubtedly one of the best defenders in the Conference South to play against Wood for both Sutton United and Dorchester Town is also now plying his trade for The Green Dragons.

It promises to be another exciting evening for Ian and the boys and your support is needed. If you saw the standard of football on offer in our recent victory over FC Halifax Town please do tell your friends and get down to Meadow Park this coming Tuesday to cheer us on to victory!
