Boreham Wood v Cambridge United

Match Preview,

by John Mead.

Returning to the fourth tier of the English football after a nine year wait The U’s are next up at Meadow Park . This is the second promoted side to visit us after Brentford and the visitors have flown out of the blocks with at the time of writing four pre season matches under their belts. Hitting three against Biggleswade Utd then nine against St Neots Town without reply, Richard Money’s side were then held to a goal less draw by Bishops Stortford. Whilst we were doing battle with Arsenal they played a young Espanyol side recording a 2-2 draw. They are due to face a young Shaktar Donetsk outfit today (Sunday) also in the Absolute Sports Travel Cup.

During their nine year exile in The Conference Premier they finished runners up three times, eventually gaining promotion last May at Wembley defeating Gateshead. That was their second visit to the National Stadium last season, having beaten Gosport Borough 4-0 to lift the F A Trophy in March.

Last season we met in pre season and the visitors ran out 1-0 winners. However we were already struggling with injuries at that stage so heres hoping we can produce a better performance this time out. Only five of our current squad featured in that game!

With the glorious new West Stand now officially open why not come on out and show your support for your local side?
