Wood have the task of facing the last two unbeaten sides in the Division, in the space of forty eight hours this weekend.

Starting with a trip to Gosport Borough on Saturday, Ian Allinson’s men then get ready for the visit of League leaders Eastbourne Borough on Monday night. Much like the Bank Holiday fixture programme, Wood will know a lot more about themselves after these 180 minutes of football.

Gosport have collected nine points from five outings so far. Their home form, draws against Wealdstone and Maidenhead United is slightly less favourable than their fortunes on the road. They put five past Weston Super Mare without reply and possess the Vanarama Conference South’s leading goalscorer in Justin Bennett. Wood will be well aware of his talents. He chose our trip to Privett Park last season to equal then smash the Football Club’s all time goal scoring record in a 2-1 win.

The trip to Hampshire will certainly be a memorable one as we board the Arsenal First Team coach, courtesy of Ellinson’s Travel and the superb gesture from our North London neighbours as part of Non League Day. Borough will be launching their own incentives with free admission to all Premiership and Football League season ticket holders, servicemen and women and anybody with VAN in their names !

The Vanarama team are hoping to beat the attendance record for Non League Day and have targeted attracting 50,000 supporters through the turnstiles on the day!

We then turn out attention to the visit of the other Borough when the Sussex coastal side will be looking to continue their excellent start to the season. A 100 per cent home record coupled with a win and two draws on the road have made The Sports the early pace setters, with fourteen points from six outings, four more than ourselves. All three sides boast fine goal averages but something has to give and we will need to be back at our very best after last Saturday’s dip in form to stay in the top five, a position we have held since the season began.

Of course your support is paramount to the players and it would be fantastic to see you all at both games!
