Boreham Wood are delighted to announce the loan signing of striker Gozie Ugwu from Chesterfield until the end of the season.

A proven entity at National League level, prior to his stint with the Spireites, Ugwu enjoyed a hugely successful spell with Woking, where he scored 21 times in all competitions.

The now 25-year-old began his career at Reading, where he enjoyed loan spells with Ebbsfleet United, Yeovil Town, Plymouth Argyle and Shrewsbury Town.

The attacker would then spend a stint in Scotland with Boreham Wood’s Irn-Bru Cup opponents Dunfermline Athletic. He enjoyed six months with the Pars, scoring seven goals in just 14 games.

A return to England followed with Yeovil Town, where he finished as the side’s top scorer, despite the club suffering relegation from League One.

On joining the Wood, Gozie Ugwu elated: “I am delighted. It feels like a fresh start and I am looking forward to enjoying my football again and scoring goals.

“I have spoken with the gaffer and I watched the team play against Chesterfield and it is a good team who plays good football.

“I like to do a bit of both as a striker, I like to go in behind and I can also show and come to feet and I think that I have got a good eye for goal.

“I had a stint through injury and I think that I lost a bit of confidence during that period.

“I just want to get back to my best and get back to the person who I was and enjoying my football again. Playing games and scoring goals.”

Luke Garrard said of his latest acquisition: “I think that he is a 6”2’ powerhouse, who 18 months ago was ripping this league up with Woking.

“He has all the tools and I have seen it first-hand. I courted him 18 months to two years ago when he was at Woking, but he then got the move to Chesterfield in the league.

“I believe that I can get the best out of him, I believe that he needs an arm around him and a platform to go again.

“He knows the demand from me and he knows exactly what I am expecting of him and what this football club is expecting from him.”
