Boreham Wood FC are delighted to announce the contract extension of Wood Army favourite Jamal Fyfield on a new deal that will see the central defender remain at the LV BET Stadium Meadow Park until the end of the 2023/24 season.

Jamal arrived at Meadow Park in the summer of 2018 following the Wood’s play-off final disappointment at Wembley at the hands of Tranmere Rovers, having previously spent two seasons in the North East with National League counterparts Gateshead. Spells with York City, Wrexham, Welling United, Grimsby Town and Maidenhead United preceded his time at the Gateshead International Stadium.

Since arriving at Meadow Park, Fyfield has been a mainstay in Luke Garrard’s back three, and despite a disappointing finish for the Wood in his first season, Jamal has been a part of a team that has created unrivalled success for the Club over the past few seasons. Firstly, reaching the National League play-offs in a COVID-19 curtailed 2019/20 season after a 5th placed finish, losing out to eventual play-off winners Harrogate Town in the semi-finals, before creating history with the Club last season by reaching the FA Cup 3rd Round Proper for the first time in the Club’s history.

As we all know, Jamal and the team have gone many steps further this season, by reaching the Emirates FA Cup 5th Round, setting up a historic tie against Everton at Goodison Park after defeating Championship high flyers AFC Bournemouth in the 4th Round at the Vitality Stadium, whilst we are well positioned for another play-off push in the league.

Jamal has been instrumental in this success, growing into a tremendous leader in the dressing room and on the pitch for Luke, deputising to Skipper Mark Ricketts on several occasions this season and last. Upon capturing Jamal’s signature on a 2-year contract extension, Gaffer Luke Garrard commented, “Really pleased to have secured Jamal for a minimum of two more years, he has been ever present this season and in my opinion one of our standout performers. We have a really strong relationship and I know every time he goes on to the pitch, he will give everything for this Club.

“We have created some real good memories in the time Jamal has been here and we have both agreed we want to produce more. Lastly, I want to thank the Chairman for getting the deal done as I honestly feel this is great business and shows we are really building something here.” Garrard concluded.

Jamal, we are delighted you will still be calling Meadow Park home until the end of the 2023/24 season, at least!
