The children at Parkside Primary started their half term holiday with a surprise visit from Boreham Wood FC’s First Team captain Mark Ricketts and first team/academy player Ben Goodliffe, during their school assembly.
The players came along to talk to the children about their careers as footballers, what motivates them and what their ambitions are, and also answered questions from the children in a Q & A at the end of the assembly. It is part of a project that the children are doing at the school called ‘GOING FOR GOALS’.
Mark Ricketts was first to talk about his playing career, his ambitions and experiences in football and how he supports the younger players like Ben Goodliffe who are coming through to start their careers. Ben has just broke into the first team and made his debut against Sutton Utd just days earlier, in Boreham Woods 5 – 0 victory in the FA Trophy. Ben also recently captained the England Colleges team against Wales.
Boreham Wood’s newly appointed Community Manager Ken Headington said “It was brilliant to bring the players to the school for this visit and the children really enjoyed it, which is fantastic. The Club has a strong community programme, which I plan to grow over the coming months, with events like this and also through Community Activities.”
“This week we are running one of our regular Half Term Soccer courses, and had over 50 participants for the first day, which is brilliant and shows how popular these activities are, and still have spaces available, so its not too late to get involved.”
