Boreham Wood and Barnet & Southgate’s England Colleges duo Charlie Wickham and Hamza Semakula have both been selected to represent their country in the famous Caput Mundi tournament.
24 players were initially selected for the Colleges team by Head Coach Darin Killpartrick, which was then trimmed down to 18-20 players for the Caput Mundi Tournament.
Some of the best young college footballers from Europe will fly out to compete in the 13th Edition of the Roma Caput Mundi. The likes of Italy, Greece and Wales are all competing in the tournament alongside England.
The quartet will fly out on Sunday, February 17 from Heathrow, and will return the following Friday.
Both Wickham and Semakula have now made their debuts for England Colleges, and featured in the recent match against Australia.
The duo were called up in 2018, following two extremely successful trials, making it ten internationals in three years for the Wood.
They have also had a number of training sessions with their England Colleges teammates at the famous St George’s Park, the home of the English FA’s national football centre.
The trip to Rome is just the latest opportunity afforded to players from our famous PASE Academy.
Head PASE coach Cameron Mawer said: “It is an amazing experience; they spend five nights there and live, eat, and breath like a professional footballer, which is incredible for them.
“To essentially be a professional for five days, will be a fantastic learning curve for them. They will gain an understanding of what tournament football is like and they will have to get themselves prepared for games and recover right.
“As individuals, it can be a massive experience and you only have to look at the likes of Sorba Thomas and Ben Goodliffe, who went away with England, to see what it can do for you as a player.
“The rewards they got from that experience and how well they have kicked on are massive – this really will aid Charlie and Hamza in their development, moving forward.
“For Hamza and Charlie to be a part of that travelling squad shows how well they have done within their own camp and how highly they are thought of by the coaches. Well done to them both and we wish them the best of luck when they go to Italy.”
