ACADEMY 2

‘Wood’s’ Youth Teams enjoyed a hugely successful Bank Holiday weekend in pursuit of the Suburban Reserve League and Under 16’s EJA League titles.

On Saturday ‘Wood’s’ Reserves side, made up of our Under 19 PASE Academy players, ran out comprehensive 3-0 winners over Tonbridge Angels in the Suburban Reserve League. A relentless first half performance and goals from Kyle Roberts (2) and Frank Kieta gave ‘Wood’ a 3-0 advantage going into half time. A professional second half outing rounding off the performance and 3 points for the ‘Wood’ youngsters.

The Reserves now have a busy week ahead with a home double against Royston Town (Thursday 21st March, 7.30pm K/O) and Uxbridge (Saturday 2nd April, 3pm K/O) as they look to maintain pressure on their title challengers.

A day earlier, ‘Wood’s’ Under 16’s side travelled to Bedfordshire’s Biggleswade Town in an EJA top-of-the-table clash. Earlier in the season the two sides enjoyed a hard-fought encounter which saw Biggleswade run out eventual 3-2 winners. ‘Wood’ were eager to return the favour and a relentless performance saw them do just that.

Goals from Alex Morgan (2), Alex Radu and Malachy McGovern saw ‘Wood’ run out deserved 4-0 winners and regain their place at the top of the EJA Herts Division.

‘Wood’s’ 16’s focus now turns away from the League and to Cup football over the next fortnight as they take on EJA counterparts Broxbourne Borough and Cheshunt in the EJA Cup and Herts County Cup Finals respectively.

Reserve and Under 16’s Manager Cameron Mawer said “It is an exciting time for the young players at our Football Club. Their efforts this season is now being rewarded with League and Cup honours up for grabs and that is what every footballer wants to be playing for. I’m looking forward to this exciting end to the season with all to play for.”
