Danny Woodard

Boreham Wood are delighted to announce the signing of the versatile defender Danny Woodards.

Danny joins the Wood with plenty of Football league experience having made over 250 appearances with spells at Exeter City, Crewe Alexandra, MK Dons, Bristol Rovers and Tranmere Rovers.

His career though began at Chelsea where he made over 70 appearances for the reserves without actually making a first team appearance. After being released by Chelsea he moved down to the South West and joined Exeter City.

After two seasons at Exeter, he joined Crewe for a fee reported to be £30,000. It was his versatility that persuaded Dario Gradi to sign him as he could play anywhere along the backline and in midfield.

After his contract expired in 2011, he joined MK Dons and made 66 appearances before joining Bristol Rovers. After departing Bristol Rovers he signed a 6 month contract with Tranmere Rovers, where he made 5 appearances before suffering a metatarsal injury..

Danny will join us in July and combine his first team footballing duties, with taking on a coaching role working and developing under Assistant Manager and Academy Director Luke Garrard within our hugely successful PASE Academy.

On sealing the deal Wood Gaffer Ian Allinson said “Danny’s pedigree is out there for all to see. His versatility and experience was important to me and he will have a big influence within the team. I needed to add men to our young squad and in Danny I’ve added strength and knowledge defensively and it will help us establish ourselves in the new National league.
