Boreham Wood Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of midfield playmaker Darren Currie from Dagenham & Redbridge.

Darren will be joining the club in a playing and coaching capacity, having already qualified as a UEFA B coach. Darren’s title will be Assistant Manager/Player, as well as the being a part of the PASE academy coaching line up, alongside fellow first team players Luke Garrard, Mario Noto and Daryl McMahon.

The former West Ham United trainee joined Shrewsbury Town in 1996 for £70,000, playing 66 times, scoring 8 goals over a two year period. Darren was released by Shrewsbury in March 1998 and joined Plymouth Argyle, until the end of the 1997/1998 season.

In the summer of 1998, Barnet snapped up his services, with Darren making over 140 league and cup appearances in three seasons. He was also selected in the PFA Team Of The Season for Division Three for two consecutive seasons but after Barnet were relegated to the Nationwide Conference at the end of the 2000/01 season, he left Barnet and joined Wycombe Wanderers for a transfer fee of £200,000.

At the end of the 2003/04 season Wycombe and Darren mutually agreed to part ways. After a successful trial with Brighton & Hove Albion, Darren joined the Seagulls, making 22 appearances in League One during his time there, before Ipswich made an offer of £250,000 to bring him to Portman Road.

Darren then spent three years with the Tractor boys, making 83 appearances, scoring 9 goals. Also spending time on loan at Championship sides Coventry and Derby County, as Ipswich Gaffer Jim Magilton could not guarantee him first team football.

Subsequently Darren signed for Luton Town on a free transfer in July 2007, signing a two-year contract, scoring on his debut against Hartlepool United in August 2007. He made 38 league and cup appearances in the 2007/08 season. When Luton went into administration, suffered a ten-point penalty and were relegated, Currie was one of several players to be offered a free transfer in May 2008.

Darren spent a year a Chesterfield, before signing for Dagenham & Redbridge at the beginning of the 2010/11 season, playing 33 times in League One.

The Chairman, Football Committee, Ian Allinson and everyone at Boreham Wood welcomes Darren to Meadow Park, and we hope that his stay with us will be a long and successful one.
