Boreham Wood Football Club are delighted to announce, that once again we will run a full community programme over the next 12 months.

Our Community initiatives this year will include going into all local primary schools who request our assistance, to coach their kids free of charge as part of an ongoing Conference and Club initiative.

This will help give the school children some specialist coaching, whilst freeing up teacher time, which in turn can perhaps then be better utilised to create and plan the children’s timetables and programmes, in a less pressurised atmosphere.

We also plan to run after schools at our participating schools, as well as Little Learners Clubs on our astro pitch for a minimal fee.

gun__1380788754_u19_napoliWe will look to give away free tickets for many of next seasons Boreham Wood and Arsenal U/21’s league games, plus all of Arsenals U/19 Champions league group games, that are once again played at Meadow Park.

Our medical team will be headed up by Megan Reid, who has along with Community Physio Kate Simmonds, put together a well thought out Health and Nutrition pack to help local parents. Furthermore they will create a hugely discounted and affordable Physio and Rehab clinic, for local people and sports clubs.

The information packs will be made available to all local parents and sports clubs over the next three months on request. The aim is to give good sensible advice that can educate parents as well as the children, on the importance of a balanced diet and regular exercise that can only help the overall well being of all kids.

The initiatives listed above, will be financed by the Club and run through our coaches and medical staff. We hope all our community agree with us, that it is important for the area’s senior Football Club, to go into our community and schools to deliver positive lifestyle workshops and assembly’s that endorse these initiatives.

SG1S1141We will announce in the near future, that we hope to create an annual and well run BWFC Inter-School League. We will provide the referee’s, we will if requested assist the school team managers, we will provide our medical staff and provide our facility as the venue for every game. That way we can ensure a safe environment, that is not waterlogged in the winter months. At the moment we have five schools fully on board but we hope to get at least eight schools, who can then battle to out to become our inaugural School Champions.

This League will be ‘free of charge’ and will be be timetabled only after consultation with all competing schools in Borehamwood, Elstree, Radlett and Shenley. That way we can ensure it will not impact on other school sports or classes and maximise participation. The new league will come complete with trophies, medals and prizes.

On top of these club initiatives, we can announce that we will also employ John Byrne as a full-time Community Coach. John is a well-known local man who through the clubs part time Community programme, has already become a popular member of staff. He will along with the clubs Senior PASE Managers and Coaches, be a huge part of this years community programme and again the employment of a local man, signifies our commitment to our community and its employment issues.

Loyola Maryland 6We have appointed Community Manager Charlie Hunter, who has now returned to the club after his Scholarship in America earlier in the year. Charlie will head up and oversee the clubs ever growing community programme and commented, “We have evolved so much as a Club in recent years, by attempting to improve our community programme even further, we hope to take it to a new level”..

He continued, “By taking on a full time community coach in John Byrne, with the employment of other local people throughout the club and by creating an apprenticeship scheme, these are huge breakthrough’s for a Club our size…”

Hunter outlined his plans further “We are also going to run a Health and Nutrition initiative for local parents which we think they’ll appreciate. Plus if the local schools get involved, the Inter-Schools League will be a big hit with the parents and children. We know how to run these events better than most and we now need all local schools to embrace it”.

Arsenal U19 v Borussia Dortmund U19 - UEFA Youth League“We also have the Arsenals Under 21’s team playing their games at Meadow Park and on top of that our community gets to see the Arsenal Under 19’s team playing in the Under 19’s Champions League Tournament. For these games to be held at Meadow Park is a tribute to the facility the Chairman is building. For both Boreham Wood and Arsenal to agree on a ‘free’ admission programme for local people is massive boost for our Community programme”. He concluded

For more information on any of our initiatives please look at the ‘Community’ Section of our website, or for questions, please do not hesitate to call or email Charlie Hunter on 020 8953 5097 or c_hunterhunter@hotmail.com.
