Boreham Wood Football Club is delighted to announce, that once again we will run a full community programme over the next 12 months.

Our Community initiatives will include going into all local primary schools that request our assistance, to coach the kids ‘free of charge’ as part of an ongoing initiative. This we believe will help give local school children some specialist coaching whilst freeing up some teacher time, which in turn can be better utilised to create and plan for children lessons in a less pressurised timeframe.

We also plan to run our after schools clubs in participating schools for a minimal fee but will give ‘free’ child tickets to all of this seasons Boreham Woods and Arsenal U/21’s teams league games. Plus all of Arsenals U/19 Champions league group games that are also being played at Meadow Park this season.

THESE GIVE AWAYS WILL BE IN THE FORM OF BWFC/ARSENAL CHILD SEASON TICKETS AND MATCHDAY TICKETS.

Our medical team headed up by Clinical lead Megan Reid, has along with Community Physio Kate Simmons put together a well thought out health and nutrition pack to help local parents.

These information packs will be made readily available for all local parents and sports clubs over the next three months on request. The aim is to give good sensible advice that can assist parents, on the importance of a balanced diet, regular exercise and the general wellbeing of all kids.

These pre-Xmas initiatives listed above, will be financed by the club and run through our coaches and our medical staff. We hope all our supporters agree with us, that it is important for the town’s senior football club to go into our local schools and deliver positive workshops and assembly’s to endorse these initiatives.

DSCF3186bvWe will also announce more initiatives after Xmas and they will culminate in us creating what we hope will turn out to be an annual BWFC Inter-school tournament, where we provide the referees, where we provide our coaches to assist the school managers and where we provide our medical staff and facility to ensure a safe environment.

This initiative will again all be ‘free of charge’ and this tournament will be timetabled alongside our local schools in Borehamwood, Elstree, Radlett and Shenley for July 2014, to ensure participation and the tournament will come complete with trophies, medals and prizes.

On top of these community investments, we can announce that we have employed Sammy Doolan as our first Community Scheme apprentice. Sam is a local lad who through the clubs PASE Scheme, he has already become an England College international in 2012 and will along with the clubs Senior PASE Managers and Coaches, be a huge part of this year’s community programme. To find employment of a local man in this area signifies our commitment to local people and our community.DSCN3550

Vice Chairman Billy Hunter who has helped grow the clubs community programme over the last 8 years said “We have evolved so much since we started our improved community programme in 2005. This year we have taken on our first community apprentice in Sam Doolan and to employ local people through an apprenticeship is a huge breakthrough for a club our size”.

“We are going to run a health and nutrition initiatives for local parents which we think they’ll appreciate. Plus we’ll create an inter-schools tournament, that will be a big hit with the schools, the kids and the parents. We know how to run these events better than most and if we get the weather it will be a great success and we’ll ensure it becomes a date the schools, the children and the parents can look forward to”.

“We also have the Arsenals 21’s team playing their games at Meadow Park for at least the next three years. On top of that we get to see the Arsenal U/19’s playing in the inaugural U/19 Champions league tournament here. For these games to be held at Meadow Park is a tribute to the facility the Chairman has built and for both BWFC and Arsenal to agree on giving ‘free admission’ for local people is a massive boost to our Community programme.

“Let’s face it the best young players from Napoli, Marseille and Borussia Dortmund, are coming to entertain us at Meadow Park against a very good young Arsenal squad, its free of charge and in truth it doesn’t get more exciting than that” He concluded.
