Boreham Wood Football Club can announce, after what was considered a poor finish to our National League season. A season where we took just 22 points from our last 25 games, and as such we have decided to revamp our squad, our management team and our infra structure slightly.

With that in mind we can announce that Junior Lewis, Tom Hitchcock, Jai Reason, Kenny Davis, Jason Goodliffe, Ben Goodliffe, Ben Nunn, Femi Ilesanmi and Matt Paine have all been released, sold or in some cases have chosen to leave the club.

Chairman Danny Hunter said “Myself, the staff and our first team manager Luke Garrard, have all been very candid with each other. Candid over expectations, our recent form and perhaps the chemistry of the dressing room and club since December. As a small club we cannot be anything but united and we’ve had to be very honest with each other about our shortfalls and we’ve not tried to sugar coat things.

“I believe we are all now stronger for our review and perhaps surprisingly we’ve only lost three people who we wanted to keep. For a club of our size that’s actually not too much of a drama, as we’ve also had to release a number of players and backroom staff that we felt needed to go. That’s the other side of football that leads to sleepless nights, it’s not very nice but it is essential if you want to evolve and progress as a club.

“I’m very pleased that I’ve also managed to increase Luke’s budget slightly for the 2017/18 season, and we’ve also done well in the transfer market recently. On top of that we’ve organised a top quality training camp for our management team and players to enjoy down in Devon in early July.

“So the upshot is, we’ve retained 8 of last season’s talented squad, another three have been promoted up from our hugely successful academy and we’ve also promoted our head academy coach Cameron Mawer, to become our new first team coach – press release to follow. We’ll now move on the six or seven players that we’ve earmarked or already been speaking with.

The Wood Chairman concluded “As a small club we know our strengths and we simply cannot afford to stand still or start next season as we finished this one. We’ve already began our huge summer building programmes, in regards to our new Desso pitch, floodlights, dugouts and our new 4G training facility. We now want to put together a squad that can challenge for a top half finish or better and as such we have kept the majority of our key staff and eight very good players, who want to be at our football club” Hunter concluded.

Boreham Wood FC’s player retained list; Grant Smith, Club Captain Joe Devera, Team Captain Mark Ricketts, Dave Stephens, Danny Woodards, Ricky Shakes, Angelo Balanta and Bruno Andrade.

The club have also offered re engagement terms to our top goalscorer and England C international Morgan Ferrier. However Morgan has respectfully declined that offer and the club has agreed that if the right offer does come in Morgan can leave the club. For any clubs interested or reading this, we have recently turned down offers in excess of £50k for Morgan and we do expect movement on this over the summer.
