This Saturday, 10th December 2011, Boreham Wood host Blue Square Bet Conference Premier side Cambridge United in the First Round Proper of the FA Carlsberg Trophy. Please beware that the kick off time has been rearranged to 1.00pm.

Cambridge United currently sit 5th in the Blue Square Bet Conference Premier, and are unbeaten in the league since October 1st, a run which stretches 10 matches – including 4 wins and 6 draws. However Cambridge are currently are on a run of 4 consecutive league draws, and haven’t won in the league since they defeated Mansfield Town 2-1 on 5th November 2011.

Cambridge United, although they have never won or reached the final of The FA Trophy, will be looking to reach the New Wembley for their Third time in recent years, after being beaten finalists in the Conference Play offs final in 200708 and 2008/09, losing against Exeter City and Torquay United in respective seasons.

On Tuesday night, the U’s travelled to Kent to play last season’s Blue Square Bet South play off winners Ebbsfleet United. On a cold night, where Cambridge seemed to dominate large periods of the game, they were left to ponder on what might have been at Stonebridge Road, as Ex-Fleet striker Ashley Carew missed a penalty after Harrison Dunk was brought down in the box.

After a slow start to the campaign, ‘Wood’s’ season is really starting to take shape after winning 7, drawing 2 and losing just 1 game in their last 10 matches. With help from loaned players Sam Cox from Barnet, Michael Thalisittis from Stevenage, Luke Wilkinson from Dagenham & Redbridge and Chez Isaac’s from Watford, ‘Wood’s’ squad has taken shape nicely, with strength in depth.

Except from Boreham Wood Skipper Mario Noto, Gaffer Ian Allinson will have a full strength squad of fit players to choose from this Saturday, so ‘Wood’ have every chance of causing an upset at Meadow Park.

Admission prices are £12 for adults and £6 for children/OAP. Cambridge United fans travelling by car to the game, as well as Supporters coaches, are reminded that Boreham Wood Football Club’s Car Park will not be in use on the day, but a Car Park located on Brook Road is recommended to be used, where there is direct access into the ground.

It was only the 2005/06 season when the ‘Wood’, who then played in the Southern League Division One East, performed the unbelievable and went against the odds to reach the Semi-final of the FA Trophy (the lowest ranked team ever to reach that stage of the competition). That season Boreham Wood overcame Bromley, Gravesend & Northfleet, Crawley Town and Worksop Town, who were all higher in the non-league pyramid. ‘Wood’ finally succumbed a two-legged Semi against Woking 3-0 on aggregate. So come down to Meadow Park and get behind the boys, as they look to perform a giant killing and repeat what we done 6 seasons ago, and go on another Trophy run!

COME ON THE WOOD.
